Landrover Freelander Propshaft Assembly Machine

Propshaft Assembly Machine

This highly complex machine assemblies 3 sub assemblies that create a complete propshaft.

The shafts splines are automatically engaged, grease applied, a boot can crimped, pull tested, Loctite applied, and then all pressed together in two stages.

The force and distance taken to assemble the shaft is recorded and the shaft passed or failed upon these values.

The completed shaft is then picked up from the machine with a transfer system and placed into a holding station at the rear of the machine.

A 3 axis gantry type transfer system then picks the shaft up from the holding station and places it in to the next machine in the line. The two machines being linked electrically and important safety measures taken to allow this.

This machine also uses a Siemens Profibus network system which allows very fast data exchange and a very neat electrical solution.
