Aircraft Engine Speed Sensor Testing Rig

This machine does a final test for aircraft engine speed sensors. A very accurately made phonic wheel rotates at speeds upto 21000rpm while the sensor picks up teeth on the wheel (similar to a proximity switch).

The voltage each of the 3 sensors in the body picks up is recorded by a high specification PC. Due to the speed and number of channels this produces a huge amount of data.

This data is plotted on a graph and the sensor passed or failed dependant on tolerances

The sensor is mounted itself on transitional tables to allow the air gap to be controlled.
